Guamanian Beef Steak (bistek)

Guamanian Beef Steak (Bistek) is a popular dish in Guamanian cuisine, featuring tender beef slices marinated in a flavorful sauce and then pan-fried to perfection.

Guamanian Beef Steak (bistek)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup calamansi juice (or lemon juice)
  • 1 large onion, sliced into rings
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, calamansi juice, garlic, and ground black pepper. Add the beef slices to the marinade, making sure they are well-coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onion rings and cook until they are soft and caramelized. Remove the onions from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, pan-fry the marinated beef slices in batches until they are browned and cooked to your desired doneness.
  4. Once all the beef slices are cooked, return the caramelized onions to the pan and stir to combine with the beef.
  5. Transfer the Guamanian Beef Steak to a serving platter and serve hot with steamed rice.
