Guamanian Custard (latiya)
Guamanian Custard, also known as Latiya, is a popular dessert in Guam. This creamy and sweet custard is a beloved treat that is often served during special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 package graham crackers
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter until well combined.
- In a serving dish, layer the bottom with graham crackers. Pour a layer of the custard mixture over the graham crackers.
- Repeat the layers of graham crackers and custard until all the custard is used, ending with a layer of custard on top.
- Sprinkle the top with additional ground cinnamon for garnish, if desired.
- Refrigerate the custard for at least 2 hours before serving to allow it to set.
