Guanimes

Guanimes are a traditional Puerto Rican dish made from cornmeal. They are similar to tamales and are often served as a side dish or snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cornmeal
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Gradually add the cornmeal to the boiling water, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  3. Add the salt and continue stirring until the mixture thickens, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  5. Shape the mixture into small patties or balls.
  6. Place the patties on a greased steamer and steam for 30-40 minutes.
  7. Remove from the steamer and let them cool before serving.
