Ingredients
- 1 lb fish fillets, such as tilapia or catfish
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2-3 green onions, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp Sichuan peppercorns
- 1-2 tbsp chili flakes
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 3 tbsp water
Instructions
- Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Season with salt and set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic, ginger, and white parts of the green onions. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the fish fillets to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until lightly browned.
- Stir in the red bell pepper, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, Sichuan peppercorns, and chili flakes. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat and let the fish simmer for 5-7 minutes until cooked through.
- Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Adjust the seasoning with salt and additional chili flakes if desired.
- Serve the Gui Zhou Suan La Yu Pi hot, garnished with the remaining green onions. Enjoy with steamed rice or noodles.
