Gujarati-style Biryani Bonanza
Experience the flavors of Gujarat with this delicious Gujarati-style Biryani Bonanza recipe. This aromatic and flavorful dish is a perfect blend of traditional Gujarati spices and biryani techniques.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, potatoes)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4-5 cloves
- 2-3 green cardamom pods
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- Heat ghee in a large pot and add the cumin seeds, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and bay leaf. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onion and cook until golden brown.
- Add the mixed vegetables and sauté for a few minutes.
- Stir in the chopped tomato, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Whisk the yogurt and garam masala together, then add it to the pot. Cook for a few minutes.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Mix gently to coat the rice with the masala.
- Pour in 3 1/2 cups of water, cover the pot, and cook until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot.
