Guyanese Style Beef Patties
Guyanese Style Beef Patties are a popular snack in Guyanese cuisine, known for their flaky crust and savory beef filling. These delicious patties are perfect for a quick meal or as an appetizer for gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon thyme, chopped
- 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, turmeric, curry powder, and salt. Add the chilled butter and use your fingers to rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add cold water, a little at a time, and mix until a dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, garlic, thyme, hot pepper sauce, and black pepper until the beef is browned. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a circle on a floured surface.
- Place a spoonful of the beef filling on one half of each circle, leaving a border. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Use a fork to crimp the edges.
- Place the patties on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
