Haak Saag (हाक साग)
हाक साग (Haak Saag) is a traditional Kashmiri dish made with tender greens and aromatic spices. This nutritious and flavorful dish is a staple in Kashmiri cuisine and is often enjoyed with steamed rice or flatbread.
Ingredients
- 500g tender greens (haak)
- 2-3 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Wash the tender greens thoroughly and chop them finely.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Let them splutter.
- Add green chilies and sauté for a minute.
- Add the chopped greens, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Pour water and cook the greens on medium heat until tender.
- Once the greens are cooked, mash them slightly with the back of a spoon.
- Simmer for a few minutes and then remove from heat.
