Haam Sui Gwo (deep-fried Shrimp Toast)
Haam Sui Gwo, also known as Deep-fried Shrimp Toast, is a popular Chiuchow Cuisine dish that features a crispy outer layer and a savory shrimp filling.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 4 slices white bread, crusts removed
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup sesame seeds
- Oil for deep-frying
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the shrimp, garlic, ginger, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper. Process until smooth.
- Spread the shrimp mixture onto the bread slices.
- Cut each slice into 6 pieces.
- Dip each piece into the beaten egg and then coat with sesame seeds.
- Heat oil in a wok or deep fryer to 350°F.
- Fry the shrimp toasts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
