Hainanese Chili Prawns

Ingredients

  • 500g large prawns, deveined and shells removed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 red chilies, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and sliced red chilies. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste, soy sauce, and sugar. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the prawns to the pan and stir to coat them in the sauce.
  5. Pour in the water and simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the prawns are cooked through.
