Hainanese Spicy Basil Tofu Stir-fry

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red chili, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut into cubes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and sesame oil. Marinate the tofu in this mixture for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and chili, and stir-fry for 1 minute.
  4. Add the marinated tofu to the pan and stir-fry for 5-7 minutes, until golden brown.
  5. Stir in the fresh basil leaves and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
