Hakka Sesame Chicken (客家芝麻鸡)

客家芝麻鸡 (Hakka Sesame Chicken) is a traditional dish from Hakka Cuisine that features tender pieces of chicken coated in a flavorful sesame sauce.

Hakka Sesame Chicken (客家芝麻鸡)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat. Let marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the garlic and ginger, and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Return the chicken to the skillet and add the honey and sesame seeds. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring to coat the chicken evenly.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the Hakka Sesame Chicken hot, garnished with extra sesame seeds if desired.
