Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg pork ribs
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 4 slices ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Add the ginger, garlic, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir-fry until fragrant.
  2. Add the pork ribs to the pot and brown them on all sides.
  3. Pour in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and sugar. Stir to coat the pork ribs evenly.
  4. Pour in the water and bring the liquid to a boil. Then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 1 hour, or until the pork ribs are tender.
  5. Once the pork ribs are tender, uncover the pot and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens.
  6. Serve the braised pork ribs hot with steamed rice.
