Halasina Beeja Upkari (jackfruit Seed Stir-fry)
Halasina Beeja Upkari is a traditional Mangalurean dish made from jackfruit seeds. It is a simple and flavorful stir-fry that makes for a delicious side dish.
Ingredients
- 2 cups jackfruit seeds, boiled and peeled
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Few curry leaves
- 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
Instructions
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions, green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add the boiled jackfruit seeds, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Finally, add freshly grated coconut and give it a quick stir. Cook for another 2-3 minutes and remove from heat.
- Halasina Beeja Upkari is ready to be served hot as a side dish.
