Haleem Heaven
Haleem is a traditional Pakistani dish that is a favorite during the holy month of Ramadan. It is a rich and hearty stew made with a combination of wheat, barley, and meat, slow-cooked to perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cracked wheat
- 1/2 cup barley
- 1/2 kg beef or mutton, cubed
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 cup cooking oil
- Salt to taste
- 6 cups water
Instructions
- Wash the cracked wheat and barley, then soak in water for 2 hours.
- In a large pot, heat the cooking oil and sauté the sliced onion until golden brown.
- Add the meat, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the meat is browned.
- Drain the soaked wheat and barley, then add them to the pot along with 6 cups of water.
- Cover and cook on low heat for 4 hours, stirring occasionally, until the grains and meat are completely tender and the mixture has thickened.
- Once the haleem is ready, serve hot, garnished with fried onions, fresh ginger, and a squeeze of lemon.
