Ingredients

  • 2 cans (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce, tomato, and avocado for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth.
  2. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, bread crumbs, cilantro, cumin, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the mashed black beans. Mix until well combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and lightly grease with oil. Cook the black bean patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  5. Toast the burger buns in the skillet for 1-2 minutes, until lightly golden.
