Har Gow (shrimp Dumplings)
Har Gow, or shrimp dumplings, are a classic dim sum dish in Cantonese cuisine. These delicate and translucent dumplings are filled with a savory mixture of shrimp and bamboo shoots, and are a popular choice for dim sum lovers.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup bamboo shoots, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup water chestnuts, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 20 round dumpling wrappers
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse the shrimp until finely chopped.
- Transfer the chopped shrimp to a bowl and add the bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, cornstarch, sugar, salt, white pepper, and sesame oil. Mix until well combined.
- Place a small spoonful of the shrimp mixture in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water and fold it in half, pleating the edges to seal the dumpling.
- Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Steam the dumplings in a bamboo steamer for 8-10 minutes until the wrappers are translucent and the filling is cooked through.
