Har Gow Tong (shrimp Dumpling Soup)
Har Gow Tong, also known as Shrimp Dumpling Soup, is a classic dish in Chiuchow Cuisine. This light and flavorful soup is perfect for any occasion, and the tender shrimp dumplings are sure to delight your taste buds.
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/4 cup water chestnuts, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup bamboo shoots, finely chopped
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 24 square wonton wrappers
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse the shrimp until finely chopped.
- Transfer the chopped shrimp to a bowl and add water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, green onions, cornstarch, sugar, sesame oil, white pepper, and salt. Mix well.
- Place a small spoonful of the shrimp mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water and fold the wrapper over the filling to create a triangle. Press the edges to seal.
- In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil. Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, and grated ginger.
- Gently drop the shrimp dumplings into the boiling broth and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until they float to the surface and are cooked through.
- Serve the shrimp dumpling soup hot, garnished with extra green onions if desired.
