Ingredients

  • 2 lbs lamb shoulder, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup whole wheat grains
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Salt to taste
  • Water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the lamb shoulder, whole wheat grains, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Add enough water to cover the ingredients by 2 inches.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the lamb and grains are tender and the mixture has thickened, remove from heat.
  5. Using a hand blender, blend the mixture until smooth and creamy.
  6. Adjust the seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve the harees hot, garnished with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.
