Harisseh (syrian Almond And Pistachio Cake)
Harisseh is a traditional Syrian almond and pistachio cake that is popular in Syrian Jewish cuisine. It is a delicious and aromatic dessert that is perfect for special occasions or as a sweet treat with tea or coffee.
Ingredients
- 1 cup semolina
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup almonds, chopped
- 1/4 cup pistachios, chopped
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon rose water
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix together the semolina, sugar, yogurt, melted butter, baking powder, vanilla extract, rose water, and cardamom until well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the chopped almonds and pistachios over the top of the batter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes before cutting into diamond or square shapes.
- Serve the harisseh warm or at room temperature.
