Hawaiian Tuna Tataki

Ingredients

  • 1 lb sushi-grade tuna
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey, ginger, and garlic to make the marinade.
  2. Place the tuna in a shallow dish and pour half of the marinade over the tuna. Reserve the remaining marinade for serving.
  3. Cover and refrigerate the tuna for 30 minutes to marinate.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over high heat. Remove the tuna from the marinade and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Sear the tuna for 1-2 minutes on each side, then remove from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes.
  6. Slice the tuna thinly and arrange on a serving platter. Drizzle with the remaining marinade and sprinkle with green onions, sesame seeds, and cilantro.
