Hazaragi Beef and Chickpea Curry (Qorma-e Gosht-o-Chana)
Qorma-e Gosht-o-Chana, also known as Hazaragi Beef and Chickpea Curry, is a traditional dish from Hazaragi Cuisine. This hearty and flavorful curry is a staple in Hazara households and is perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb beef, cut into cubes
- 1 cup dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until they are golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the beef cubes and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, ground coriander, ground cumin, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the soaked chickpeas and enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the beef and chickpeas are tender.
- Stir in the plain yogurt and garam masala. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
