Hazaragi Spiced Lamb and Chickpea Curry (Qorma-e Gosht-o-Chana)
Qorma-e Gosht-o-Chana is a traditional Hazaragi spiced lamb and chickpea curry that is full of flavor and warmth. This hearty dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb, cut into chunks
- 1 cup dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until they are golden brown.
- Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the lamb chunks and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the tomato puree, yogurt, and all the spices. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the soaked chickpeas and enough water to cover the meat and chickpeas. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour or until the meat is tender.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
