Hazaragi Spiced Lamb and Lentil Curry (Qorma-e Gosht-o-Adas)
Qorma-e Gosht-o-Adas is a traditional Hazaragi dish that combines tender lamb with hearty lentils in a rich and aromatic curry. This flavorful and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family meal or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb, cut into cubes
- 1 cup lentils, rinsed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Water
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add the lamb cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, ground coriander, cumin, turmeric, garam masala, cinnamon, and cardamom. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Whisk the yogurt and add it to the pot. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add the rinsed lentils and enough water to cover the ingredients. Season with salt.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the lamb and lentils are tender.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
