Heavenly Honey Baklava (Ουράνιο μπακλαβάς με μέλι)

Baklava is a traditional dessert in Greek cuisine, and this recipe adds a heavenly twist with the addition of honey. The combination of flaky phyllo pastry, crunchy nuts, and sweet honey syrup makes this baklava a truly divine treat.

Heavenly Honey Baklava (Ουράνιο μπακλαβάς με μέλι)

Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo pastry sheets
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups of mixed nuts (such as walnuts, pistachios, and almonds), finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts with the ground cinnamon.
  3. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo pastry in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo pastry.
  6. Continue layering 5 sheets of phyllo pastry, brushing each sheet with melted butter, and sprinkling the nut mixture, until all the nut mixture is used.
  7. Top the baklava with 10 more sheets of phyllo pastry, again brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown.
  10. While the baklava is baking, make the honey syrup by combining the sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  11. When the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot honey syrup over the hot baklava.
  12. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
