Heavenly Honey Baklava (Ουράνιο μπακλαβάς με μέλι)
Baklava is a traditional dessert in Greek cuisine, and this recipe adds a heavenly twist with the addition of honey. The combination of flaky phyllo pastry, crunchy nuts, and sweet honey syrup makes this baklava a truly divine treat.
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo pastry sheets
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups of mixed nuts (such as walnuts, pistachios, and almonds), finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts with the ground cinnamon.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer 10 sheets of phyllo pastry in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo pastry.
- Continue layering 5 sheets of phyllo pastry, brushing each sheet with melted butter, and sprinkling the nut mixture, until all the nut mixture is used.
- Top the baklava with 10 more sheets of phyllo pastry, again brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown.
- While the baklava is baking, make the honey syrup by combining the sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- When the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot honey syrup over the hot baklava.
- Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
