Himalayan Dal Bhat

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lentils
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 cups water for cooking rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse the lentils and place them in a pot with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Rinse the rice and cook it in 2 cups of water until tender.
  3. In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden brown.
  4. Add the turmeric, cumin, and salt to the onion mixture and stir well.
  5. Pour the cooked lentils into the onion mixture and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Serve the dal and rice together on a plate.
