Himalayan Dal Bhat
Himalayan Dal Bhat is a traditional Nepalese meal consisting of lentil soup (dal) and steamed rice (bhat). It is a staple dish in Nepalese cuisine and is often served with various accompaniments such as vegetables, pickles, and chutney.
Ingredients
- 1 cup lentils
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup rice
- 2 cups water for cooking rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Rinse the lentils and place them in a pot with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Rinse the rice and cook it in 2 cups of water until tender.
- In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden brown.
- Add the turmeric, cumin, and salt to the onion mixture and stir well.
- Pour the cooked lentils into the onion mixture and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Serve the dal and rice together on a plate.
