Hmong-inspired Sesame Ginger Tofu

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic.
  2. Place the tofu cubes in a large resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over the tofu. Seal the bag and gently toss to coat the tofu. Marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the tofu from the bag, reserving the marinade. Sprinkle the tofu with cornstarch and toss to coat.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the tofu. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the tofu is golden and crispy.
  5. Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the sesame ginger tofu hot, with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables.
