Hmong-inspired Spicy Basil Tofu

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, and brown sugar. Set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the tofu and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sliced red bell pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the peppers are slightly softened.
  4. Return the tofu to the skillet and pour the soy sauce mixture over the tofu and peppers. Stir to coat everything evenly.
  5. Add the fresh basil leaves to the skillet and gently toss until the basil is wilted.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Remove from heat and serve hot.
