Hmong-inspired Spicy Basil Tofu
This Hmong-inspired Spicy Basil Tofu recipe is a delicious and flavorful dish that combines the aromatic flavors of Hmong cuisine with the heartiness of tofu. It's a perfect way to enjoy a plant-based meal with a kick of spice and fragrant basil.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cubed
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, and brown sugar. Set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the tofu and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sliced red bell pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the peppers are slightly softened.
- Return the tofu to the skillet and pour the soy sauce mixture over the tofu and peppers. Stir to coat everything evenly.
- Add the fresh basil leaves to the skillet and gently toss until the basil is wilted.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Remove from heat and serve hot.
