Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Boil a large pot of water and carefully place the whole head of cabbage in the water. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the outer leaves are soft and pliable. Remove the cabbage from the water and let it cool.
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper.
- Carefully remove the softened cabbage leaves, trim the thick center stem, and place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each leaf. Roll the leaves, tucking in the sides, and place them seam side down in a large pot.
- Pour the tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls, cover the pot, and simmer on low heat for 1 hour.
- Serve the Holubtsi hot, topped with a dollop of sour cream.
