Holubtsi Hype
Holubtsi, also known as cabbage rolls, are a traditional Ukrainian dish made with ground meat, rice, and seasonings wrapped in cabbage leaves and cooked in a flavorful tomato sauce. This recipe for Holubtsi Hype will surely become a family favorite!
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll them up, tucking in the sides as you go.
- In a separate pot, combine the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Place the cabbage rolls in the pot, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.
- Serve the Holubtsi hot, topped with the tomato sauce from the pot.
