Hong Shao Niu Rou Qing Jiao (braised Beef With Green Peppers In Brown Sauce)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, sliced
  • 2 green bell peppers, sliced
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tbsp of vegetable oil in a wok over high heat. Stir-fry the beef until browned. Remove from the wok and set aside.
  2. Heat the remaining 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in the wok. Add the ginger and garlic, and stir-fry until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and sugar. Stir well.
  4. Add the beef back into the wok and stir to coat with the sauce.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  6. Add the green bell peppers and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
