Horchata Celestial, also known as Heavenly Horchata, is a traditional Salvadoran rice-based beverage that is sweet, creamy, and flavored with cinnamon. This refreshing drink is perfect for cooling off on a hot day or as a sweet treat any time of the year.
Ingredients
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 5 cups water
- 1 cup milk (or almond milk for a vegan option)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the rice, cinnamon sticks, and 2 cups of water. Blend until the rice and cinnamon are roughly ground.
- Add the remaining water and continue blending for 1-2 minutes.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible.
- Stir in the sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Refrigerate the horchata for at least 2 hours before serving. Serve over ice and garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, if desired.
