Horsegram Soup Rice (ulava Charu Annam)
Horsegram Soup Rice, also known as Ulava Charu Annam, is a traditional Andhra cuisine dish that is both nutritious and delicious. This recipe combines the goodness of horsegram with the comfort of rice, making it a wholesome and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup horsegram
- 1 cup rice
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Coriander leaves for garnish
- 2 tbsp ghee or oil
Instructions
- Wash the horsegram and rice together and soak for 30 minutes.
- In a pressure cooker, heat ghee or oil and sauté the chopped onions until they turn translucent.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and sauté for a minute.
- Now, add the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
- Drain the soaked horsegram and rice, and add them to the pressure cooker.
- Add 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the horsegram is soft.
- Once the pressure releases, open the cooker and mix the contents well. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
