Horsegram Soup, also known as Ulava Charu, is a traditional dish from the Telugu Cuisine. It is a nutritious and flavorful soup made with horsegram lentils and spices.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup horsegram lentils
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker, add horsegram lentils and water. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are soft.
  2. Heat oil in a pot, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and curry leaves. Sauté until the seeds splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  5. Once the lentils are cooked, add them to the pot along with the water. Mix well and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
