Horsegram Soup (ulava Charu)
Horsegram Soup, also known as Ulava Charu, is a traditional dish from the Telugu Cuisine. It is a nutritious and flavorful soup made with horsegram lentils and spices.
Ingredients
- 1 cup horsegram lentils
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
- 1 tablespoon oil
Instructions
- In a pressure cooker, add horsegram lentils and water. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are soft.
- Heat oil in a pot, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and curry leaves. Sauté until the seeds splutter.
- Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Once the lentils are cooked, add them to the pot along with the water. Mix well and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
