Htamin Jin is a popular Burmese-style Tom Yum Soup that combines the flavors of Burmese and Chinese cuisine. This spicy and sour soup is packed with aromatic herbs and tender seafood, making it a perfect dish for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 stalk lemongrass, smashed and cut into 2-inch pieces
- 3 kaffir lime leaves
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 8 ounces shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8 ounces squid, cleaned and sliced into rings
- 1 tomato, cut into wedges
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 red chilies, sliced
- 1/4 cup cilantro leaves
- 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil. Add lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Stir in the coconut milk, fish sauce, tamarind paste, and sugar. Bring to a gentle boil.
- Add the shrimp, squid, tomato, and onion. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the seafood is cooked through.
- Stir in the red chilies, cilantro, and green onions. Season with salt to taste.
- Serve the Htamin Jin hot, garnished with extra cilantro and lime wedges if desired.
