Hu Jiao Ji, also known as Black Pepper Chicken, is a popular dish in Pakistani Chinese cuisine. It features tender chicken pieces stir-fried with aromatic black pepper and other flavorful ingredients, creating a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 500g boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 3 tablespoons oil, divided
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 2 green onions, chopped
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the chicken with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, ground black pepper, and sugar. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated chicken and stir-fry until cooked through. Remove the chicken from the wok and set aside.
- Heat the remaining tablespoon of oil in the same wok. Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.
- Return the cooked chicken to the wok. Add the freshly ground black pepper and chicken broth. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.
