湖北红烧牛肉 (Hubei-style Braised Beef) is a classic dish from Hubei Cuisine, known for its rich and savory flavors. This dish features tender beef braised in a fragrant and aromatic sauce, making it a perfect comfort food for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
- 3 slices ginger
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 star anise
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 3 tbsp Shaoxing wine
- 2 tbsp rock sugar
- 1 tsp Sichuan peppercorns
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- In a pot, blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat some oil in a pot, then add ginger, garlic, and green onions. Stir-fry until fragrant.
- Add the blanched beef brisket, star anise, and cinnamon sticks. Stir well.
- Pour in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and rock sugar. Stir and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add Sichuan peppercorns and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours until the beef is tender.
- Once the beef is tender, remove the ginger, garlic, green onions, star anise, and cinnamon sticks. Serve the braised beef hot.
