Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 2 tbsp rock sugar
  • 1 tsp Sichuan peppercorns
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a pot, blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat some oil in a pot, then add ginger, garlic, and green onions. Stir-fry until fragrant.
  3. Add the blanched beef brisket, star anise, and cinnamon sticks. Stir well.
  4. Pour in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and rock sugar. Stir and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add Sichuan peppercorns and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours until the beef is tender.
  6. Once the beef is tender, remove the ginger, garlic, green onions, star anise, and cinnamon sticks. Serve the braised beef hot.
