Humitas Chilenas (chilean Corn Humitas)
Humitas Chilenas, also known as Chilean Corn Humitas, are a traditional dish from Chile made with fresh corn, onions, and basil, wrapped in corn husks and steamed to perfection. This savory and slightly sweet dish is a popular choice for breakfast or as a side dish for lunch or dinner.
Ingredients
- 6 ears of fresh corn, husks and silk removed
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, grate the corn kernels off the cobs using a box grater.
- Add the chopped onion, basil, melted butter, milk, salt, and pepper to the grated corn. Mix well.
- Place a corn husk on a flat surface and spoon some of the corn mixture onto the center of the husk.
- Fold the sides of the husk over the filling, then fold the bottom of the husk up and secure with kitchen twine.
- Place the humitas in a large pot with a steamer basket and steam for 45 minutes.
- Remove the humitas from the pot and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
