Hummus (lainya Lentil Hummus)
Hummus is a popular Middle Eastern dip made from cooked, mashed chickpeas or other beans, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and garlic. In this South Sudanese twist, we use Lainya lentils to create a unique and flavorful hummus.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Lainya lentils, cooked and drained
- 3 tablespoons tahini
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt to taste
- Water, as needed
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the cooked Lainya lentils, tahini, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, cumin, and salt.
- Blend until smooth, adding water as needed to achieve the desired consistency.
- Transfer the hummus to a serving dish and drizzle with a little more olive oil.
- Serve with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a spread for sandwiches.
