Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
- 3 slices ginger
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 3 dried red chilies
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1.5 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Water
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add ginger, garlic, green onions, dried red chilies, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir-fry until fragrant.
- Add the beef chunks and sear until browned on all sides.
- Pour in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and sugar. Stir to coat the beef.
- Pour in beef broth and add enough water to cover the beef. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Season with salt to taste. Serve the braised beef hot with steamed rice.
