Hunan-style Crispy Tofu (湖南炸豆腐)

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 red chili, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu cubes between paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan and fry the tofu until crispy and golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  4. In the same pan, sauté garlic, green onions, and red chili until fragrant.
  5. Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and sesame oil to the pan and stir to combine.
  6. Add the crispy tofu back to the pan and toss to coat with the sauce.
  7. Serve the Hunan-style crispy tofu hot and garnish with additional green onions, if desired.
