Ika (Fish) Ceviche is a traditional Niuean dish that features fresh fish marinated in citrus juices and mixed with vegetables and coconut cream. This refreshing and flavorful dish is perfect for a light and healthy meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh white fish fillets, diced
- 1 cup lime juice
- 1 cup coconut cream
- 1 cucumber, diced
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 chili pepper, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a glass or ceramic bowl, combine the diced fish and lime juice. Make sure the fish is completely submerged in the juice. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, drain the lime juice from the fish.
- Add the coconut cream, diced cucumber, tomato, red onion, chili pepper, and chopped cilantro to the fish. Mix gently to combine.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Refrigerate for an additional 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve the ika ceviche chilled, garnished with extra cilantro if desired.
