Imli Wala Chawal (tangy Tamarind Rice)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup tamarind pulp
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Then, drain the water and set the rice aside.
  2. In a pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Once the seeds crackle, add chopped onions and green chilies. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Add tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Now, add the soaked rice and water. Cover the pan and cook until the rice is done.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and serve hot.
