Imli Wala Maach (tangy Tamarind Fish)

Ingredients

  • 500g fish fillets
  • 1 cup tamarind pulp
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish fillets with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish fillets until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, red chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  5. Add tamarind pulp and cook for a few minutes until the mixture thickens.
  6. Add the fried fish fillets to the tamarind mixture and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
