- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 2 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 1/4 cups cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Once melted, remove from the heat and stir in the sugar, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and vanilla extract.
- Whisk in the eggs, one at a time, until well combined.
- Stir in the flour until just combined. If using nuts, fold them in at this point.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
