Ina Garten Brownies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Once melted, remove from the heat and stir in the sugar, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and vanilla extract.
  3. Whisk in the eggs, one at a time, until well combined.
  4. Stir in the flour until just combined. If using nuts, fold them in at this point.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  7. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
