Iraqi Chicken and Rice with Turmeric (Timman Z'faran)
Timman Z'faran is a classic Iraqi dish of chicken and rice flavored with turmeric, creating a vibrant and aromatic meal that is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the chicken thighs on both sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
- Stir in the turmeric, then add the rice and cook for 2 minutes.
- Pour in the chicken broth and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, return the chicken to the pot, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the chicken is cooked through.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.
