Ingredients

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
- In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the rum, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just incorporated. Fold in the chopped nuts, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- If desired, while the cake is still warm, poke holes in the top with a skewer and drizzle the 1/4 cup of rum over the cake to soak.
