Jalebi (sweet Jalebi)
Jalebi is a popular Indian sweet made from deep-fried maida batter, soaked in sugar syrup. It is a delicious and crispy dessert that is enjoyed on special occasions and festivals.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron strands
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, yogurt, and baking soda to make a smooth batter. Let it ferment for 6-8 hours or overnight.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and saffron. Boil the mixture until it reaches one-string consistency to make the sugar syrup.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Pour the batter into a squeeze bottle or piping bag. Squeeze the batter into the hot oil in a circular motion to form jalebi shapes. Fry until they are crisp and golden.
- Remove the jalebis from the oil and immediately dip them into the warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for a few seconds, then remove and place on a plate.
