Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the milk, water, butter, egg, and egg yolk.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 3 equal parts. Roll each part into a ball and place them in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover the pan with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Brush the top of the dough with heavy cream and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool before slicing.
