Jardaloo Salli Murghi (जरदालू साली मुर्गी)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup dried apricots
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup fried potato sticks (Salli)
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried apricots in warm water for 30 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a large pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Now add the chicken pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  5. Stir in the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
  6. Pour in the tomato puree and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Add the soaked apricots and enough water to cover the chicken. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
  8. Garnish with fried potato sticks (Salli) and fresh coriander leaves before serving.
