Javanese Noodles (mee Jawa Perfection)
Javanese Noodles, also known as Mee Jawa, is a popular dish in Bruneian cuisine. This flavorful noodle dish is a perfect combination of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Ingredients
- 300g yellow noodles
- 200g chicken breast, sliced
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 2 hard-boiled eggs, halved
- 4 sprigs of cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- Boil the yellow noodles until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- In a wok, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced onion, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced chicken breast and cook until no longer pink.
- Stir in the sweet soy sauce, tamarind paste, and chili powder. Mix well.
- Add the boiled yellow noodles and bean sprouts to the wok. Toss to combine and cook for a few minutes.
- Divide the noodles into serving bowls. Top each bowl with a halved hard-boiled egg and garnish with cilantro.
